Pastor Gregory just started a new teaching titled "I Will Give You Counsel". We have been going through the Book of Exodus, Chapters 18 and 19. I would like to share with you from my notes what I have learned. In Exodus 18:1-12 we see how Moses and Jethro have a mutual regard and respect for each other. Jethro was Moses'
father-in-law and he also was a spiritual father to him. In Exodus 4:18 Moses asked his father-in- law to release him from an assignment that God had called him to do. Jethro found two problems: 1. Moses was judging Israel by himself with no help, and as a result Moses experienced great fatigue.
2. The people he was ministering to became frustrated because they couldn't get prompt relief . Also Jethro instructed Moses to get leaders to help him.
In Exodus 3:12 we find that God fulfilled His promise to bring the people to Mt. Sinai to worship Him. God made a covenant with Moses and He made one with me. Through Jesus, we are an heir to the promise. Matthew 18:19 is a powerful scripture. "I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you."
Without respect and trust, there will never be growth in our life. Once we start trusting and respecting, our conduct will change. We must start rewriting our life script with our tongue. Exodus 19:5 tells us "Now if you will obey and keep my covenant, you will be my own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me." God wants us to come into agreement with Him. When we do, we have power. But there is something we first have to do. And that is stop being selfish and stop missing the beat. Let me ask you this. Are you willing to stop being selfish? Think about it. There is a great reward from our Heavenly Father when we do.
